#13 Online Scams and Schemes

I have a friend who's mother has personally experienced an online scam. She went online, seeking help with her tax forms or something of that sort, and came into contact with someone from a website who allegedly had their own office and business that helped people with these matters. Trusting him, they exchanged phone numbers and called each other to discuss what their plan of action would be. They chatted and discussed that they would meet up at his "office" to work things out, but first, he needed a little background information from her before they could "start the process". He innocently asked her to fax him a few forms and receipts from various things so he could get a feel for what they would be working with, so she faxed them, and he said he would call her in a week. A week passed by, she heard nothing. Two weeks, still nothing. She tried calling him to see what the issue was, and his phone number had been disconnected. Thinking that was odd, she went to her bank to get some of her bank statements so she could save them for her tax stuff, and when she went, all of the money she had in her checking had been taken out. Shocked, she rushed to the address where he said his "office" was, and came to discover that it was a vacant lot. No building, nothing. She had been completely screwed over. He somehow gathered enough information from those receipts and forms to get into her bank account.
